HP is expected to become the largest computer maker again

Hewlett-Packard is expected to sell 7 million laptops in the first quarter of this year, exceeding the target of more than 1 million units. If this is true, HP will have the opportunity to surpass Lenovo to become the world's largest notebook computer manufacturer.

However, it is expected that Acer and Asustek’s notebook shipments will be affected.

Industry insiders originally predicted that Hewlett-Packard could sell only 6 million laptops in the first quarter of this year, which is lower than Lenovo’s expected sales of 6.6 million, but HP’s performance exceeded expectations. Industry sources also said that HP's 2014 laptop shipments may exceed their original estimate of 28 million targets. Industry insiders expect Lenovo’s 2014 notebook shipments to be 28.3 million units.

Most of HP's consumer laptops are outsourced to Quanta Computer, which currently takes more than 50% of orders. In addition to Quanta Computer, Wistron and Compal are HP's ODM partners for consumer laptops. Inventec is the most important ODM partner of HP's enterprise laptops and it also takes on some consumer laptop orders.

If HP's laptop shipments really increase, the biggest beneficiaries will be Quanta Computer and Inventec.

HP sold 7.7 million notebooks in the fourth quarter of 2013 and expects its first-quarter shipments to decline by 9% from the previous quarter.

Industry insiders estimate that Acer's notebook shipments in the first quarter will be 15% lower than the previous quarter's shipments.
