The new MCU is an extension of the popular PIC32MX3/4 family of high-performance 32-bit microcontrollers. They provide higher RAM storage options and more integrated peripherals at a lower cost. The PIC32MX3/4 features a 28 x 10-bit ADC and five UARTs, 105 DMIPS performance, serial peripherals, graphics display, capacitive touch, connectivity, and digital audio support.
Sumit Mitra, vice president of Microchip's MCU32 division, said: "More and more designs in the consumer, home appliance, medical and industrial markets require high quality, low cost audio, capacitive touch, graphic display capability, and USB support. This new PIC32 MX3/ The 4 Series and our complete solution help application designers add all of these capabilities for faster, lower-cost development while reducing risk.â€
Development Support The PIC32MX3/4 family is supported by a comprehensive set of tools and software, including general-purpose software development tools such as the MPLAB® Integrated Development Environment and the MPLAB XC32 C/C++ Compiler. Application-specific tools include the Microchip Graphics Display Designer X and the Microchip Graphics Library, a visual design tool that helps create a graphical user interface (GUI) screen in an application quickly and easily. Microchip offers a complete set of protocol stacks, including TCP/IP, USB devices and hosts, Bluetooth®, and Wi-Fi®, as well as new MCUs. For digital audio applications, Microchip offers software that includes tasks such as sample rate conversion (SRC), MP3 and AAC audio codecs, and software for connecting smartphones and other personal electronic devices.
Microchip's PIC32 USB Starter Kit III (part number 320003-3) and the PIC32MX450 100-pin USB PIM (part number MA320002-2) for the modular Explorer 16 development system support the PIC32MX3/4 family.
