Samsung LED: Can not miss the Chinese LED lighting market

[High- tech LED reporter Zhao Hui] On June 10th, Samsung Electronics held the “Singapore LED Lighting New Era” 2013 Samsung LED Technology Exchange Conference at the Shangri-La Hotel, Guangzhou. The conference also marked the stagnation of Samsung LED after two years. After that, it officially entered the Chinese LED market.

Samsung began to enter the LED lighting market in 2011, but due to market decisions, internal management and many other issues have always been tepid. Especially in the Chinese mainland market, the development of Samsung LED in the first two years is in a trough, and the special lighting is the shortcoming of Samsung LED.

At this meeting, Samsung LED invited about 40 major lighting companies, media and other related parties to participate in the conference. At the meeting, the development history and latest products of Samsung LED were introduced in detail. The conference also attracted the attention of many LED lighting companies.

Samsung Technology Exchange

"China is the most important market for LEDs in the world, and China's LED companies are also Samsung's most important customers." Jaap Schlejen, president of Samsung Electronics' LED business unit, said in his speech that the purpose of the technology exchange is to let Samsung LED understand the domestic The needs of LED companies to provide our customers with the best device products and services.

“As early as 1995, Samsung started the LED business; in April 2009, Samsung Electronics and Samsung Electronics of Samsung Group jointly established a global LED professional manufacturing and sales company – Samsung LED Co., Ltd., which was officially merged in 2012. Samsung Electronics." Tang Guoqing, general manager of Samsung LED China, said that Samsung LED relies on brand advantages, and current product sales are in short supply. Samsung LED will achieve medium-power and high-power LED products in the Chinese market, and will also provide COB and AC LED products for the market to create "four-wheel drive".

It is understood that Samsung's epitaxial chips are currently produced in Suwon, South Korea, while the packaging plant is located in Tianjin, China. The epitaxial wafers of Samsung LEDs have all been 4-inch.

At the conference, Samsung LED also introduced 13 LED light sources for lighting and 6 module products. In particular, the medium-power LED light source "LM561B" and the high-power LED light source "LH351A", which achieve the highest luminous efficiency in the industry, are highly valued by the industry.

At present, Samsung LED mainly pushes 2323, 5630 and 3623 models in medium power devices, of which 2323 and 5630 each have 2 products. High-power devices are mainly models of 3535 and 5050.

"The latest product of the 5630 can achieve 160lm/w of light efficiency and 180-200lm/w next year." Tang Guoqing told the "High-tech LED" reporter that Samsung LED will continue to improve its products through the improvement of sealing process and materials. Light efficiency, while vigorously extending the product line to meet the needs of customers.

"Every company should have its own core competitiveness, integration is not the most important, what is the most important thing." Tang Guoqing believes that the advantages of Samsung LED products lies in performance, reliability and cost-effective. The entire industry chain of Samsung LED integration can provide LED companies with a wide range of reliable products with excellent performance.

The person in charge of the participating lighting company said that Samsung’s image to the outside world is that once it enters a new field, it will rely on the scaled cost advantage to seize the market advantage. However, the current domestic LED device competition is also fierce, with Philips, Osram, Cree and other international manufacturers are under pressure, and there are competitions from domestic manufacturers such as Ruifeng Optoelectronics and Hongli Optoelectronics. Samsung LED is now in a late-stage state, and its future development is full of uncertainty.
