The initial investment will reach $96 million and the production capacity of 20 million power LED chips per month. LED wafers and high-power LED chips will be produced using Xuming's patented vertical-LED-on-metal technology.
   The new plant will be divided into three phases. The first phase will invest US$96 million and it is planned to be fully mass-produced in October 2010. The initial production capacity is 20 million 1mm*1mm LED chips per month. In the next three years, the plant will invest and expand in three stages.
   SemiLEDs said that the new plant in China will provide new opportunities for the company to support and serve the Chinese market, as well as to meet the growing global demand.
   SemiLEDs is headquartered in Idaho, USA, and the company has a factory in Taiwan. In July this year, SemiLEDs announced the establishment of a third production plant in Taiwan's Hsinchu Science Park. The company said at the time that the plant brought them 15 million 1*1mm high-power chips per month. In September this year, SemiLEDs announced that its Taiwan facility has introduced four-inch wafer production equipment.
