Toshiba's storage device division today released two new 2.5-inch anti-vibration HDDs for industrial users, namely MK1060GSCX with 100GB SATA interface and MK8050GACY with 80GB PATA interface, designed specifically for working in harsh environments. The series can work 24x7 all day in a temperature range of minus 15 degrees Celsius to 70 degrees Celsius. It is the largest product in the business-class hard disk market. SATA 100GB version of the operating temperature of minus 30 to 85 degrees above zero, non-operating temperature minus 40 to 95 degrees above zero, working altitude -300 to 5650 meters, non-operating altitude up to 12000 meters. PATA 80GB version of the operating temperature of minus 20 to 70 degrees above zero, non-operating temperature minus 40 to 95 degrees above zero, working altitude -300 to 5500 meters, non-working altitude -40 to 12000 meters.
In terms of vibration prevention, the SATA version can withstand 3G (8-50Hz), 2.5G (50-200Hz), 2G (200-500Hz) vibrations, and up to 5G (10-500Hz) under non-operating conditions. The PATA version is anti-vibration 3G (8-50Hz), 2G (50-200Hz), 1G (200-500Hz) vibration, up to 5G (10-500Hz) in non-operating state. Impact resistance performance of the two products is the same, are 300G (2ms), 100G (11ms) under working conditions, and 800G (1ms) under non-operating conditions.
With these strict restrictions, the performance can not naturally require too much, both products are 4200rpm, SATA version of a single-disc single head, found time 12ms; PATA version of single-disc dual head, found 16ms.
Toshiba said that the two new products will begin mass production in December this year for automotive systems, ATM machines, monitoring equipment, factory automation equipment, three anti-PC and so on.
