The electronic hourglass is a typical example of a cascaded shift register. The circuit diagram is shown in the figure. It consists of five components:
(1) 15 bit shift register composed of integrated circuits IC1 and IC2; (2) input data control circuits composed of switches S1 and S2, diodes VD16, VD17, VD18, and resistor R16; (3) transistors VT1 to VT15 and VT1 ~ VT15 composed of output state control circuit; (4) LEDs VD1 ~ VD15 and VD1 ~ VD15 display circuit; (5) inverter D1, D2 and other clock oscillator.
