Summary:
A light emitting diode (LED) is a semiconductor device that emits incoherent narrow-spectrum light when a forward bias is applied electronically, resulting in an electroluminescent form. The color of the emitted light depends on the chemical composition of the semiconductor material used, and may be near-ultraviolet, visible or infrared. Today, LEDs are used more extensively than ever before, and have replaced traditional incandescent bulbs and fluorescent lamps in many applications.
