Analysis of smartphone shipments in 2012

Analysis of smartphone shipments in 2012 IDC statistics report shows that in 2012, the total number of smartphone shipments in China accounted for 1/4 to reach 26.5%, making China the world's largest smartphone shipment. The United States ranked second with 17.8%, while the third place had only 4.5% of shipments in the United Kingdom.

According to the analysis, the Chinese market is now dominated by Android phones under US$200. With the intensification of competition from domestic manufacturers, prices are expected to drop below US$100. IDC said that India, Brazil and Russia will be emerging markets for smart phones in the future. IDC predicts that by 2016 India and Brazil will surpass the United Kingdom to rank 3rd and 4th.

IDC had previously forecast that in 2012, global smartphone shipments reached 686 million units, accounting for 38.4% of the total global mobile phone shipments (61.6% of feature phones). In other words, there are approximately 182 million smart phone shipments in China.

From a digital point of view, this is enough, but China is a huge consumer market with over one billion people, so most people still use feature phones. According to previous reports, China has reached 400 million people through mobile Internet access.
