Linear Technology has introduced the LT3745, a 16-channel LED driver that integrates a 55V step-down controller. The LED driver powers up to 75mA of LED current per channel and can drive up to 36V of series LEDs, making the device ideal for applications such as large LED billboards.
Each channel of the LT3745 has a separate 6-bit correction current regulation and 12-bit grayscale PWM dimming, plus a minimum LED on-time of 0.5μs, the LT3745 offers a very wide dynamic contrast ratio. Point correction and gray levels are available through a serial interface in TTL/CMOS logic.
The LT3745's 60V to 55V input voltage range is suitable for wide input supply ranges in commercial and industrial designs, typically between 12V and 48V. The smallest external components plus a 6mm x 6mm QFN package provide a highly compact footprint for multi-channel LED applications.
The LT3745's internal step-down controller produces an adaptive bus voltage slightly higher than the parallel LED string to provide over 90% efficiency. Sixteen linear current sinks regulate and modulate each LED string, providing a rich feature in a compact footprint solution.
In addition, the LT3745 performs comprehensive diagnostic and protection functions for open/short LEDs and overtemperature faults, and fault conditions are sent over the serial data interface. The 30MHz full buffer, slew rate balanced, cascadable serial data interface makes the LT3745 ideal for large-screen LCD dynamic backlighting and full-color LED displays.
