January-October 2017 China's home appliance exports continued to improve

Since 2017, the global economy has continued to recover moderately. Consumer confidence in most countries has boosted and market demand has expanded significantly. Coupled with the steady rise in the exchange rate of the Renminbi and the ease of pressure on raw material costs, exports from the home appliance industry have continued to improve. As of October, the cumulative growth of exports was 8.4%. In the first half, it increased by 7.7%; in the third quarter, it increased by 7.0%; in October it increased by 14.5%.

The National Grid of China learned from the China Household Electrical Appliances Association that from January to October 2017, exports from the home appliance industry maintained a favorable trend. In the month of October, the value of exports was US$4.86 billion, an increase of 14.5% over the same period of last year. The cumulative value of exports was US$51.55 billion, an increase of 8.4%. Cumulative exports maintained the best level in history and registered the largest cumulative increase since the beginning of this year; cumulative imports were US$3.38 billion. , an increase of 21.5%; surplus of 48.17 billion US dollars, an increase of 7.6%.

Export trend continues to optimize the product structure

From January to October 2017, the volume of large and small household appliances and parts and components has increased, which has continued to grow steadily since March.

Among them, in October 2017, all household appliances except for washing machines kept the same amount. Among them, the refrigerator has reversed the downward trend for two consecutive years, and the freezer has grown steadily. Both exports are the best in history. In addition, because refrigerator companies forced raw material prices to rise sharply in the fourth quarter of last year to increase product prices, coupled with the optimization of product mix, the increase in export value has been higher than the increase in export volume since the beginning of the year; the history of air conditioner exports is the best, but the window and wall type The large number of products exported has lowered the average price of the products, resulting in an increase in export volume of 7.2 percentage points less than the increase in exports; the volume of microwave oven exports has been positive since May and has steadily increased. Although most of the products exported performed well, the washing machine has not reversed the double-digit negative growth due to the anti-dumping influence of the US Department of Commerce.

From the perspective of product structure, the structure of some home appliance export products has been significantly optimized since 2017, and it has gradually begun to shift from mid- to low-end to mid-to-high end. In terms of refrigerators, the export value of refrigerators that were larger than 500L and 200L-500L in October increased by 45.5% and 25.3%, respectively, accounting for 57.6% of the total exports of compressed refrigerators, up 5.7 percentage points over the same period of the previous year; for washing machines, 10kg and below. Export volume of capacity drum washing machines increased by 25.9%, accounting for 45.2% of washing machine exports, up 13.4 percentage points, partially offsetting the decline caused by anti-dumping in the United States, while washing machines of 10kg and below fell by 22.4%.

Small household appliances continued to improve due to the recovery of kitchen appliances and vacuum cleaners and the steady growth of comfortable indoor products. Among them, kitchen appliances in the electric oven baking appliances increase the most obvious, while the largest decline in the coffee machine; vacuum cleaner exports increased by more than 6 percentage points higher than the export volume, mainly due to the increase in exports of wireless charging vacuum cleaners.

Increased exports to Asia, Europe, and North America Rapid growth in Latin America Rapid decline in Africa

Since 2017, with the exception of Africa, the home appliance industry has maintained good growth in exports to other economic regions. From January to October, exports to Asia and Europe were the best in history, with growth rates of 8.6% and 9.8%, respectively, 7.3% and 3.3% higher than the same period of last year; Europe still topped North America as the second largest exporter of China's home appliance industry. Economic zone status, an increase of 9.8%, accounting for 24.9%, an increase of 0.3 percentage points; exports to North America, an increase of 5.1%, accounting for a global share of 24.9%, a decrease of 0.8 percentage points; thanks to the gradual recovery of the economy of Brazil and Argentina, exports to Latin America From last year's drop of 17.3% to a 20.1% increase, it has picked up quickly. Because most African countries, especially sub-Saharan African countries, have not yet emerged from their predicament and consumer demand is weak, their exports to Africa have continued to decline.

With the implementation of the “One Belt and One Road” policy, the development of projects such as interconnection and interoperability, trade and investment facilitation, and corporate cooperation mechanisms continue to advance. The home appliance industry has also accelerated its exports to countries along the “Belt and Road” initiative. From January to October 2017, exports to 65 countries along the “Belt and Road” were US$14.26 billion, an increase of 10.6%, accounting for 27.7% of the home appliance industry's exports, up 0.6%. From all regions, except for the 11 countries in East Asia that have remained stable, other countries have seen rapid growth. Among them, driven by Russia and Ukraine, coupled with a low base, the CIS 7 countries are among the biggest gainers; the increase in exports to Syria and Kyrgyzstan is more than 85%. The major countries with large declines are Jordan, Egypt, Belarus and Sri Lanka.

In addition to maintaining rapid growth in exporting countries along the “Belt and Road”, Chinese home appliance companies are also accelerating their investment in countries along the “Belt and Road”. As recently as Haier has signed a tripartite agreement with the government of the Republic of Tatarstan and the municipality of Naberezhnjan-Chelny, plans to build a washing machine factory on the banks of the Kama River to meet the rising demand of the Russian market. The new plant will have an investment of 50 million U.S. dollars and a designed capacity of 500,000 U.S. dollars. It is expected to be completed by July 2019, and the products after production will radiate throughout Russia, Central Asia, and some European countries; on November 16, Haier will be located in India. The Haier Industrial Park's water heater interconnection plant was formally put into production. This is the first interconnection factory built by the Chinese water heater industry overseas and the first wholly-owned overseas interconnection plant for Haier water heaters. The factory has a landscaping area of nearly 16,000 square meters and a total of eight production lines. It mainly produces electric water heaters and solar water heaters. In addition to satisfying the Indian market demand, the products will continue to radiate to Middle East Africa and Russia. In addition, Midea Group discussed with Belarus about the next 500 million U.S. dollar investment plan on November 27.
