STMicroelectronics has launched a visual Profi MEMS Tool development platform that allows engineers to view the working status of MEMS sensors, speed time-to-market, and maximize the performance of new product designs.
The Profi MEMS Tool motherboard features a high-performance STM32F401 microcontroller and a flexible power management chip that powers the sensor and takes the sensor's output data back to the developer GUI (Graphical User Interface) software on the PC host. Users can use ST's free UNICO GUI software (available for download from st.com) or use other tools to analyze MEMS sensor waveforms.
The Profi MEMS Tool is not limited to connecting sensors and GUIs, it allows users to explore the full operating mode and power settings of the sensor while optimizing sensor performance and accuracy. The board has sufficient computing power to handle complex data sets such as OIS / EIS (Optical or Electronic Image Stabilization) data from ST's advanced 6-axis inertial module outputs, as well as simple sensor readings such as barometers, Accelerometer or gyroscope data. The board also has a wealth of features to evaluate the latest generation of high-resolution industrial-grade MEMS sensors. For example, STMicroelectronics recently introduced the IIS3DHHC three-axis low-noise accelerometer with 16-bit accelerometer output and 12-bit temperature output.
Before turning on the project, the user first inserts the target sensor module into the expansion header on the motherboard. The software adjusts the power supply circuit to allow the sensor supply voltage to be flexibly set from 0V to 3.6V to reproduce the possible operating conditions of the target application. In addition, the motherboard provides users with accurate power monitoring, eliminating the need to connect external instruments to detect the sensor's supply voltage and current, simplifying power-consuming networking, smart sensors, mobile robots or drone controllers.
