5 thought schools of artificial intelligence

The future of work, this is a topic of debate between technology giants and CEOs. When it comes to artificial intelligence, the fog has not yet dispersed. Is it because of the uncertainty surrounding artificial intelligence and its growing technology industry? Or is it because of the changes that will be triggered by the use of artificial intelligence? No matter what, everyone seems to have not reached an agreement.

Even the seemingly different views between technology giants Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk have formed two of the five intellectual schools of artificial intelligence. In addition to opposition and chaos, there are many problems surrounding artificial intelligence. Will artificial intelligence replace our work? Will artificial intelligence create new jobs? Does artificial intelligence and we work together? Is artificial intelligence smarter than humans?

Only time will give an answer. The Harvard Business Review says that for the moment, there are five schools of artificial intelligence. We need to look at the artificial intelligence-centric perspective to understand where you are and how to prepare and respond in the workplace.

Utopian thought

This school of thought is all about artificial intelligence that has a positive impact on the economy. The Utopia School believes that artificial intelligence will bring a new era of extreme wealth and growth without any economic downturn. The Harvard Business Review explains in this way that "AI and computing power will achieve 'singularity' in the next two decades - by that time the machine can fully emulate the way the human brain works."

The brain will be downloaded and copied. These replicated brains will complete cognitive work, and the robot will do physical work. The Utopia School believes that this shift in cognitive and physical skills will lead to an increase in economic output, doubling every three months. The main belief of this school is that artificial intelligence and robots will be able to apply their skills and talents to meaningful actions while doing all the work, justifiably "anything you want."

Anti-utopian thought

On the other hand, dystopian thinking focuses on the negative impact of AI and robots on the market and the world. The Harvard Business Review calls it the Darwin Controversy, in which the machine will dominate everything. These AI systems will dominate a variety of highly skilled jobs, and low-skilled positions will be handed over to the robot.

The result of this change will be high unemployment, extremely low wages and economic hardship. Human productivity declines, incomes fall, and demand for goods and services declines. Our economy may be in trouble. Musk believes that this may be a possibility and that Universal Basic Income is necessary.

Technological optimism

Although some business and technology enthusiasts believe that we have many years to improve artificial intelligence, technology optimists focus on the optimism that artificial intelligence may bring technological progress. While companies are still learning how this smart technology can change their business, the idea is that the end enterprise will master the technology and make good use of it.

When they mastered this concept, the “flying of productivity” brought great value in the industry, creating economic growth, a higher standard of living, together with “consumer surplus and free application and information value”. This thinking also points out that in all these changes, people may lose their jobs, need to overcome the problem of negative income tax, and also need investment in education and training as well as technology.

Realism

Although it is always good to be optimistic, and this idea is good, it is also crucial to become a realist. This school of thought focuses on the realism behind AI and the changes that artificial intelligence can bring in the business world.

They believe that, like the previous wave of technology, the wave of artificial intelligence and smart machines can create the productivity it promises. Companies that can implement the requirements of artificial intelligence technology will quickly increase productivity. Although new jobs can be created, this technology will further exacerbate what happened in the past: lower levels of medium-skilled work, higher levels of higher and lower levels.

Realists believe that these problems cannot be answered because of the lack of complete research. Research is needed to make informed decisions about AI and machine intelligence.

Lack of productivity

I myself are also rethinking which school I belong to. Each school is meaningful to me and seems to be a possibility. But in the end I know that no matter what the predictions about artificial intelligence, I need to prepare for the future.
